Urban Renewal 2004, Horizontal and Vertical utopias
Ticiana Araújo, Megumi Okubo, Max Hartman, Markus Wikar
Design task:
The removal of the railroad which goes through Shibuya in Tokyo makes a long and narrow stripe of land available for new urban interventions. Our task was to design new urban functions to this space.
Design proposal:
Instead of building a mega-structure, we decide to fill the area with “parasite” structures fixed to the walls of existing buildings. The towers we have designed can be seen as metaphors for attractors of parasites. As one moves to upper levels the spaces gradually shift from public towards more private spaces. |
